He stated, "Nearly every single House Democrat just voted against government funding and to shut down the government," noting that 197 Democrats opposed the bill that included disaster relief and aid for farmers. Democrats largely voted against the second attempt at a continuing resolution (CR), which Trump supported and aimed to suspend the debt ceiling until 2027. Vice President-elect JD Vance echoed the criticism, suggesting Democrats preferred a shutdown over giving the president negotiating power. The deadline for passing a spending bill is Friday night at midnight.
