How the Left turned January 6 into an ‘insurrection’

In today’s world, where finding truthful journalism is challenging, the WND News Center aims to clarify the chaotic and risky times we are in. They often discuss how the Left has transformed various issues into specific terms or phrases that signal belonging to a certain group. Over recent decades, new terms like “marriage equality” for gay marriage, “reproductive rights” for abortion, and “gender affirming care” for child sexual mutilation have been introduced. A significant change was when “global warming” was reframed as “climate change,” creating further anxiety among children.

In the lead-up to the 2020 elections, the media portrayed violent riots as “mostly peaceful protests” and described efforts to ensure fair elections as “voter suppression. ” After the 2020 election, the terms “big lie” and “free and fair election” began to be widely used to pressure acceptance among those wanting to be seen as respectable. On January 6, 2021, the term “insurrection” gained popularity very quickly. Julie Kelly's book, “January 6,” explains how this shift happened in the media and political circles almost immediately after the Capitol events began that day.

Within 90 minutes of the chaos, Representative Ted Deutch referred to the event as a "violent insurrection,” and later that day, Joe Biden echoed this sentiment. Various Republicans also joined in, calling the events of January 6 an insurrection, claiming it was incited by the president. Former President George W. Bush also released a statement labeling the incident a violent assault on the Capitol.

Definitions matter, as “insurrection” means an organized and often violent act against the government. The actions on January 6 were not organized by the protesters, who aimed to convince Congress to enforce the rule of law. The media pushed the narrative that it was an insurrection, despite evidence to the contrary. Most protesters did not carry weapons, as noted by those who pointed out that if the goal was an armed insurrection, they would have come with guns.

Despite attempts by fact-checkers to argue otherwise, supporters of the idea that it was an insurrection noted that no protester inside the Capitol was armed. The only gunfire that day came from law enforcement. The difference in what is labeled as an armed insurrection versus actual events on January 6 highlights a broader battle over truth in the media and public discourse.

Jack Cashill's book, “Ashli: The Untold Story of the Women of January 6,” provides more insight into these events. Content from the WND News Center is available for eligible news publishers looking to share their information.
