Last week the Wall Street Journal noted a potential problem for national security due to shortages, "Fewer weapons manufacturers, shortages and 'single source' contractors limit the Pentagon's ability to ramp up production-including when the sole maker of a crucial type of gunpowder stopped producing." The Department of Defense relied on the Minden factory to produce an array of items, including bullets, mortar shells, artillery rounds, and Tomahawk missiles.

Black powder has current military applications as well and cannot be substituted with another product.

An issue that has been exasperated by the Biden administration sending vast amounts of munitions and supplies to protect Ukraine while making America more vulnerable.

Texas Senate Passes Bill Banning Citizens From Hostile Nations From Buying Farmland

 Under a new bill that was passed by the Texas state Senate, citizens from countries that pose a threat to the United States would not be allowed to own certain types of lands.

Michael P Senger April 28, 2023 The new bill, Senate Bill 147, would ban citizens from countries that have been named on the Director of National Intelligence's National Threat Assessment for three years in a row, or more.

Senator Lois Kolkhorst, who had introduced the bill, told Fox News that the bill is the balance that is needed, and that it is vital to the national security of the country.

"Senate Bill 147 strikes the balance of national security, and the state is vital to our national security," Kolkhorst said.

"National security is a serious issue, but if we are concerned about the actions of foreign governments, then legislation should only affect foreign governments and their agents." Members of the Houston Asian community opposed the bill and held rallies near the office of Senator Kolkhorst in protest.

The protesters called the bill "Racist and xenophobic." June Xu, a member of the Houston Asian community said that even though the bill was altered and "Watered down," it was still discriminatory and racial profiling.

Senator Tom Cotton has also introduced a bill on the national level that would ban Chinese citizens from buying real estate in the United States.

Republicans Grill FBI Over Alleged Domestic Surveillance Abuses

 Heads of the federal government's top intelligence agencies appeared unable or unwilling to reveal to the public just how much data is being collected on US citizens via Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Though the hearing was meant to focus on the FBI's alleged misuse of FISA to surveil prominent political figures, including an aide to Donald Trump, the event quickly expanded into a debate over the very existence of Section 702, a Bush-era surveillance tool intended to gather intelligence on foreign entities abroad set to expire later this year.

Others, like Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee approached talks of reforms more cautiously and repeatedly praised Section 702 for allegedly helping thwart domestic terror attacks.

What are FISA and Section 702? Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Intelligence Surveillance Act refers to a 2008 provision added to the landmark 1978 FISA legislation.

Unlike previous FISA restrictions, Section 702 no longer required a potential government surveillance target to be a spy or other agent of a foreign government.

Crucially, Section 702 compels US tech companies like Google and Meta as well as telecommunication companies to hand over communications of government surveillance targets.

JPMorgan, PNC To Buy First Republic After FDIC Seizure First Leaves Taxpayers Holding The Toxic Stuff

 As the weekend begins, the WSJ reports late on Friday that big banks including JPMorgan and PNC are set to buy First Republic Bank but not in a private, market-arranged deal but rather in a transaction that would follow a government seizure of the troubled lender.

Update: As many expected given the intraday collapse of FRC, Reuters reports after the bell that The FDIC will imminently the bank into receivership.

Shares collapsed to a $1 handle in the after hours trading, down 70% on the day.... FRC was trading at $120 at the start of March... and now it's trading close to $1.20.... ...Aaaaand it's gone.... * * *. Update: First Republic Bank shares are halted for volatility having collapsed 50% back to record lows as hopes of a 'private' deal fade.... Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers criticized Washington regulators and US banking giants for not having already figured out a solution for the beleaguered lender First Republic Bank.

The First Republic farce rolls on.... After reporting dramatically worse deposit outflows, The FT reports that there had been a shift in tone among the First Republic Bank's advisers compared with Tuesday and Wednesday when First Republic's shares fell 65 per cent and fears grew that it was close to being taken over by the FDIC. The conversations about the bank reportedly remain fraught, and the people cautioned that it was not clear that a solution would be found.

Specifically, The FT reports that one proposal that may be part of an eventual solution is for some of the banks to buy some of First Republic's long-dated assets for more than their current market price, allowing the lender to shrink its losses.

Bear in mind that the 'Big Banks' have $30 billion in deposits at the embattled bank... so the FDIC has a problem already.

FRC Bonds ain't buying it at all.... First Republic shares were up around 5% in the pre-market, but have already erased the earlier stronger gains.... Just to put that into context, here's FRC this week.... Finally, First Republic Bank's membership in the S&P 500 Index could be in jeopardy after the troubled bank's stock set a new all-time low on Wednesday that briefly pushed its market capitalization below $1 billion.

Biden DOJ: Kids Have A Constitutional Right To Puberty Blockers

 The Biden Administration has a new and unhinged constitutional theory: the 14th Amendment protects the right of a child to take puberty blockers.

Bans on hormone treatments for children with gender dysphoria, such as the prescription of testosterone to a transgender 12 year-old, violate the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause.

That's the Administration's position in LW v. Skrmetti, a lawsuit filed in a Nashville, Tennessee federal court by the families of three transgender children - a fifteen year-old transgender daughter, a fifteen year-old transgender son, and a twelve year-old transgender son.

The families of these transgender kids allege that the Tennessee law violates the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause by targeting the transgender; violates the right of parental autonomy guaranteed by the 14th Amendment's due process clause; and that the law is preempted by the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits discrimination "On the basis of sex."

What is this medical care? The 15 year-old transgender "Girl" - born a male - is currently undergoing estrogen hormone therapy so that his body will "Undergo feminine pubertal changes." The 15 year-old transgender "Boy" who was born a girl came out as transgender around the 5th grade.

The 12 year-old transgender "Boy" - born a female - was diagnosed with gender dysphoria in the second grade, when she then began her transition.

The young girl's mom was also a key factor in the biological changes endured by her daughter, having influenced the girl's decision to start taking puberty blockers.

How Far Will Corporate Media Hacks Go To Cover For Biden?

 Like just about anything else that undermines the Democrats' preferred narratives, the Getty Images photo that revealed that President Joe Biden's responses to questions at his joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier this week were scripted went mostly unreported throughout the corporate press.

Biden duly called upon Subramanian, who then did ask a question about semiconductors, though not the exact same question that was on his card.

In any event, Biden followed the script and gave her the answer to the question he thought he was getting rather than the one she posed.

The question this incident poses is far more serious than the fact that Biden can't maneuver through a public event without minute instructions.

Given his age and his inability to get through public appearances without all manners of gaffes and evidence of confusion, what the cheat sheets demonstrate is that the corporate media considers itself obligated to assist the White House in a deceitful show aimed at demonstrating Biden is capable of governing, when that is not the case.

DOJ Refuses To Product Docs On Investigations Targeting Trump

 Of Justice is refusing to release names of staffers working in the office of the Special Counsel in charge of two investigations targeting former President Donald Trump and other Americans.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith in November to take over two investigations involving Trump, who is running for re-election in 2024.

Trump says he used his presidential authority to declassify the records in question, but the FBI used a SWAT style raid to confiscate them.

The second investigation regards Trump's challenge of the 2020 presidential election results, which allegedly included a plan to submit separate slates of electors to block Congress from certifying Democrat Joe Biden's victory.

Previous Judicial Watch and other investigations of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team highlighted anti-Trump bias and partisan hiring.

One can only conclude, after seeing the uproar over the anti-Trump, partisan Mueller operation, that the Garland Justice Department has something to hide about Jack Smith and his prosecutors again targeting Trump and other Republicans with unprecedented investigations.

In May 2019, DOJ records included text messages and calendar entries of Mueller special counsel prosecutor Andrew Weissmann showing he led the hiring effort for the investigation that targeted President Trump.

Tlaib Joins Calls For Feinstein To Resign After Another GOP Win In The Senate

 Rep. Rashida Tlaib has joined the ranks of some of her fellow Democrats in calling on Sen. Dianne Feinstein to resign from the Senate due to her prolonged absence clogging up judicial nominations and costing the party some key votes.

The bill narrowly passed the Senate with a 50-49 vote, with Sen. Joe Manchin joining all Republicans backing the measure - prompting anger among some Democrats who say Feinstein's presence would've tanked the GOP effort.

KHANNA RENEWS CALLS FOR FEINSTEIN TO RESIGN AFTER SENATE VOTES TO OVERTURN BIDEN EMISSIONS RULE. "Because Sen. Feinstein was absent, Republicans are passing legislation through the Senate, undermining the right of our residents to breathe clean air," Tlaib tweeted.

In calling on Feinstein to resign, Tlaib joins Democratic colleagues such as Rep. Ro Khanna, who offered similar sentiments earlier this week - renewing calls from earlier this month that the California senator should be replaced.

"Because Senator Feinstein was absent, the Senate overturned a Biden rule that would cut pollution from heavy duty trucks and causes harm to people's lungs," Khanna said on Thursday.

Rep. Dean Phillips also called on Feinstein to resign earlier this month, urging other Democrats to do the same.

Feinstein has been absent from the Senate since Feb. 27 after being diagnosed with shingles, prompting calls from some Democrats for the California senator to step down so the party can advance its legislative priorities.

 The New York Times reports that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is trying to "Limit" former President Donald Trump's access to some of the evidence that Bragg has against Trump.

Bragg is the district attorney who has gained notoriety by indicting Trump on 34 felony criminal charges.

Legal experts, based on what they have seen so far from Bragg, have raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of Bragg's case against Trump.

Trump maintains that he has done nothing wrong and that the real impetus behind Bragg's indictment is political - that Bragg is using the dubious charges as a ploy to interfere with Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.

Now, Bragg is trying to place restrictions on Trump's ability to view the evidence that Bragg has against Trump.

According to the Times, the district attorney's office asked the judge to prohibit Trump from publicizing the evidence on social media.

If they don't stop Trump from winning the election, then they can use it for yet another impeachment of Trump.

Biden List of Top Campaign Advisers Surfaces

Well, as everyone knows, Joe Biden has announced that he is going to be running for re-election in 2024.

He and Kamala Harris made nice for the day, posed for pictures, and got Dems all fired up.

The list of people that Biden expects to enlist in his effort to win a second term has surfaced and I have to say, it is a great conversation piece.

The List

At the top of the list is Biden’s new campaign manager, and based on her past, this is going to get rather lively.

Biden is tapping activist and longtime Democrat operative Julia Chavez Rodriguez to run the campaign. She is the granddaughter of labor icon Cesar Chavez, reports Fox News.

How far back does her protesting go? Well, she was arrested at age of nine for the first time for a protest at a supermarket.

When her grandfather fasted for 36 days to support his union cause, at the age of 10, she joined him for three days of the fast.

Sidenote… she was involved in Kamala Harris’ failed presidential bid in 2020.

Biden announced, “To win this fight, we need strong leadership that can build and expand our broad, diverse coalition from 2020.

“Julie and Quentin are trusted, effective leaders that know the stakes of this election and will bring their knowledge and energy to managing a campaign that reaches all Americans.”

Quentin would be her principal deputy, Quentin Fulks.

On her grandfather, Rodriquez stated, “He was both a role model but also a hero. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to grow up with him and see him in action, ride alongside him, and march alongside him in so many ways.”

Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, was very critical of the choice. He stated, “This is not a person who speaks about the future. This is a person that represents the past. It’s like they’re stuck in the late 60s.”

That actually makes a lot of sense because Biden is already seemingly trying to make himself out to the king of the unions, exactly the theme that was present in the 1960s when Chavez campaigned for JFK.

Gonzalez continued, “It’s a baffling choice in my opinion. It doesn’t answer any of the concerns that the Mexican-American voters in parts of Texas have about the direction of the Democratic Party. This is, well, we’re stuck in the 1960s … we’re stuck with Cesar Chavez and we’re going to give you more of it.”

Biden better tread this union line carefully, however, because he has screwed over several unions during his time in office and I am sure they are going to be more than happy to let him know about it.
