A World Without Christ?

The Christmas holiday season allows for reflection on the past year, including both successes and failures. Writer Myra Kahn Adams recently discussed the hypothetical scenario of a world without Jesus, prompting thoughts about the blessings of Western society rooted in Judeo-Christian values. Without Christ's influence, life would be bleak, lacking the example of selfless love and redemption from sin that His birth represents.

The stark contrast between life in the West and in countries governed by oppressive socialist, communist, or Islamic regimes highlights the impact of Christian ideals. In these regions, where Christianity is often criminalized, the absence of Christ equates to a life of hardship and despair. History is filled with examples of tyrants, like King Herod, who sought power at the expense of others, reflecting mankind's fallen nature.

In Western societies, Christians are pushing back against over a century of post-modern and liberal-progressive thought, which uses state power to address social issues but has led to deeper problems rather than solutions. This worldview often dismisses God and discredits religious faith, leading to a society marked by discord and weaken foundational relationships.

The very groups behind today’s societal issues are attempting to persuade the public that they can fix everything by taking away freedoms for greater control. Observing the failures of government, particularly during crises like Hurricane Helene, has spurred Christian mobilization. Voters turned out significantly for President Trump in response to governmental inefficiencies.

In times of need, it is often regular citizens who step in to help each other rather than relying solely on government responses. Such was the case in North Carolina, where a local church took action to assist those affected by disasters. The efforts were driven by a commitment to care for one another rooted in Judeo-Christian principles.

Adams referenced C. S. Lewis, who suggested that a world without Jesus would lack hope and joy. Without the birth of Christ, humanity would be left in darkness, with no means of redemption or peace. However, Christ was indeed born, at a specific time and place, which was significant in human history. The Gospels affirm that Jesus came to save rather than condemn the world.

The poet James Lowell Russell stated that it would be difficult to find a place where peace and safety exist without the prior influence of the Gospel. The conclusion is that governmental systems cannot address humanity's core problems, which are ultimately spiritual. Only through Christ's intervention can true solutions be found.

The blessings from Christ's birth are intricately tied to human history, marking it as a pivotal moment. The significance of His coming benefits all of humanity. The message concludes with warm wishes for peace and joy during the Christmas season, celebrating the salvation offered through Christ.
