Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing abortionist Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter, who is accused of illegally mailing abortion pills to a Texas resident. The drugs led to the death of an unborn child and caused severe health issues for the mother, requiring emergency treatment. Paxton is seeking a penalty of $100,000 for each violation of the law.
In a press release, Paxton emphasized Texas' commitment to the health of mothers and unborn children, stating that out-of-state doctors cannot prescribe abortion drugs illegally in Texas. Pro-life groups supported this lawsuit, acknowledging the dangers of the mail-order abortion industry. Katie Daniel from SBA Pro-Life America criticized the lack of accountability for abortionists in states like New York, which results in harm to women and children in Texas.
The Texas Human Life Protection Act restricts abortion by surgical and chemical means except in specific medical situations. It allows the Attorney General to sue violators, and Texas law prohibits the distribution of abortion drugs via mail or telemedicine from out-of-state doctors without a Texas medical license.
Texas Alliance for Life praised Paxton's actions, highlighting the importance of accountability for those who endanger women's lives. The lawsuit aims to stop further violations and enforce civil penalties, reinforcing the need to protect the health of women and unborn children in Texas.
