President-elect Donald J. Trump has announced Kashyap “Kash” Patel as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), replacing Christopher Wray. Trump praised Patel on Truth Social, calling him a skilled lawyer and an "America First" advocate who has dedicated his career to fighting corruption and protecting the American people. He highlighted Patel’s role in exposing what he referred to as the Russia hoax and noted Patel’s previous positions during Trump’s first term, including Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense and Deputy Director of National Intelligence.
Trump expressed confidence that Patel would tackle rising crime in America, dismantle migrant criminal gangs, and combat human and drug trafficking. He stated that Patel would work with Attorney General Pam Bondi to restore values of Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity within the FBI. However, there are concerns among senior FBI officials who are reportedly trying to prevent Patel's appointment, fearing he might address actions taken against Trump and his supporters by previous officials.
