Wendy’s has begun closing 140 restaurants across the US as part of its strategy to improve operations and focus on more profitable locations. This decision comes amid rising operational costs and strong competition in the fast-food industry. According to Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner, the restaurants chosen for closure are outdated and situated in areas that do not perform well.
The closures are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with some locations in Ohio already shut down. No further details about other locations set for closure have been announced. Many customers have expressed their frustration over rising menu prices and a decline in food quality, which has affected the chain's weaker stores.
Despite these closures, Wendy’s is still aiming for growth. The company, which has over 6,500 locations worldwide, plans to open about 250 to 300 new restaurants in strategic markets to help counteract the impact of the closures.
