Trump’s FCC Must Smash Corporate Media’s ‘Censorship Cartel’

Republican Senator has introduced a federal ban on procedures for altering children’s bodies. The FCC chairman nominee, Brendan Carr, has expressed his commitment to improve broadcast TV and tackle censorship. He and others are highlighting how corporate media has allegedly interfered in elections, particularly targeting ABC News, CBS News, and the Washington Post as biased in favor of Democrats. The Center for American Rights (CAR) has submitted complaints to the FCC and the Federal Election Commission, claiming that major news organizations have not followed proper broadcasting regulations and have manipulated news coverage.

After a presidential debate where ABC allegedly favored Kamala Harris and fact-checked Donald Trump unfairly, CAR filed complaints against ABC for failing to provide fair coverage. They argue that the biased treatment could harm public opinion and democracy. The law firm claims that ABC’s actions amounted to an illegal contribution to the Harris campaign.

Additionally, the law firm accused CBS of intentional news distortion related to a "60 Minutes" interview with Harris, where viewers received different answers to a question. They have demanded the release of the full, unedited interview transcript, which CBS has not provided.

In the days leading up to the election, CAR also lodged complaints against The Washington Post for promoting anti-Trump stories on social media without equal representation for other candidates. They argue that this falls under campaign finance law.

Before the election, CAR filed another complaint against NBC for a “Saturday Night Live” sketch that was seen as unfairly promoting Harris. Following backlash, NBC attempted to run Trump advertisements to fulfill equal time regulations.

These actions have drawn attention from FCC members, including Nathan Simington, who has called on networks to address these complaints seriously. Brendan Carr has commented on the lack of trust in the media and emphasized the need for broadcasters to serve the public interest in exchange for their access to public airwaves.

Carr has expressed plans to change the current media landscape, especially concerning censorship, and aims to challenge tech companies involved in what he describes as a censorship cartel. The Center for American Rights advocates for equal treatment of all news media under campaign finance laws, asserting that the mainstream media should not receive special protection under the First Amendment.

How the perception and legal interpretation of press rights have evolved, stressing that separate standards for mainstream media do not hold water anymore. The objective is to call for accountability and equal treatment across all media outlets, ensuring that campaign laws apply consistently to everyone.
