The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic has released a 520-page report following a two-year investigation into COVID-19 policies, including social distancing, mask mandates, and vaccine mandates. The report details the origins of the pandemic and examines how federal laws and funds were used in response to it.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup explained that the committee aimed to create a comprehensive after-action report to improve future pandemic responses. Throughout the investigation, the committee conducted 38 interviews, held 25 hearings, and reviewed over a million pages of documents.
The report found that the six-foot social distancing guideline lacked scientific support. It stated that this practice became a significant policy during the pandemic, with the CDC establishing the six-foot distance as a standard on March 22, 2020. Notably, Dr. Anthony Fauci acknowledged that there were no solid scientific standards backing this rule and distanced himself from the decision, attributing it to the CDC.
The report criticized the justification for this impactful COVID-19 policy, noting that it seemed to emerge without scientific trials or discussions among leadership. It stressed that such significant decisions should be based on science that can be communicated to the public.
Regarding mask use, the report indicated that the CDC and the Biden Administration selectively used data to argue that masks were entirely effective. The report emphasized that the CDC's role should include conducting thorough clinical trials to ensure the best research underlines their guidelines.
The report highlighted that mask mandates for K-12 students caused harm, noting that many countries did not recommend masks for young children due to low risks and potential negative effects on their development.
Additionally, the report stated that COVID-19 vaccine mandates lacked scientific basis and resulted in significant negative consequences: people lost jobs, healthcare and education sectors were weakened, military readiness suffered, and trust in public health declined. While five major federal vaccine mandates have been revoked, their impacts will persist.
The report criticized the mandates for ignoring natural immunity, assessing risks from the virus and vaccine, and recognizing that vaccines do not stop the virus's spread. It pointed out that federal officials overemphasized the vaccines' effectiveness, portraying unvaccinated individuals as the source of ongoing issues. The report accused the Biden Administration of failing to adhere to available evidence while claiming to follow scientific guidance.
Moreover, the report noted that herd immunity is supported by public health leaders, yet there was a coordinated effort to overlook natural immunity's significance. Lastly, it indicated that the COVID-19 vaccine did not fulfill prior promises of stopping the spread of the virus.
