Is This The Beginning Of A Terror Wave?

The New Year began with one or possibly two terrorist attacks that resulted in over a dozen innocent deaths. In New Orleans, a driver crashed a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people. The driver, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, had an ISIS flag in the rented vehicle and is suspected to have acted with accomplices. Police discovered pipe bombs in the truck and placed in the French Quarter. There were also bomb-making materials found at the Airbnb where he was staying, which later caught fire.

On the same day, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Elon Musk confirmed via a post on X that the explosion resulted from very large fireworks or a bomb transported in the truck, and was unrelated to the vehicle itself. Both vehicles used in these attacks were rented through the Turo app, which is a platform for car-sharing.

Questions arise about whether this signifies the start of a wave of terrorist attacks in the U. S. Concerns are present, especially given the Biden administration’s perceived inaction on terror threats over the past four years. Following the U. S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, ISIS took control of significant territory, creating a threat that has inspired attacks both in Europe and the U. S. Evidence shows that Biden's open-border policy has allowed potential terrorists to enter the country, with 250 individuals on terrorist watch lists encountered at the southern border, 99 of whom were released into the U. S.

The FBI appears to be more focused on tracking right-wing terror threats rather than actual terrorists, demonstrated by their initial reluctance to label the New Orleans attack as terrorism. Biden’s comments following the attack suggested he prioritized caution regarding the suspect's background, despite evidence indicating his affiliation with ISIS and intent to harm.

These New Year’s Day incidents were not unexpected, and based on historical patterns, they might not be the last. The only reassurance noted is a possible change in leadership in 18 days.
