With many migrants being deported and federal grant funding frozen, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held her first press briefing. She noted President Trump's more than 300 executive orders, which include reinstating the Remain in Mexico policy and ending federal DEI programs.
Leavitt explained that the pause on federal grants won’t affect programs like Social Security, Medicare, pension, welfare benefits, or food stamps. She stated that the halt means no funding for DEI programs, the green new deal, and services related to transgender issues.
The pause will remain until the Office of Management and Budget reviews programs using taxpayer dollars, with a deadline for submissions on February 10. She mentioned OMB's stoppage of unnecessary spending, such as a $50 million fund for condoms in Gaza. Funding for charities and NGOs that serve illegal migrants will also be cut.
Leavitt emphasized that all illegal migrants are subject to deportation and highlighted that those committing serious crimes should be prioritized. She defended Trump's move to end universal birthright citizenship, calling it “unconstitutional. ” Leavitt assured that Trump will keep pushing forward with his promises for America.
