Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a bill on Wednesday that would allow children harmed by transgender procedures to sue the doctors and hospitals responsible for these operations. The bill enables individuals to take legal action against pediatric gender clinics and doctors who administered cross-sex hormones or performed transgender surgery on minors. This legislation follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which blocks federal funding for hospitals that perform such procedures.
Hawley criticized the Biden administration for enabling what he calls dangerous procedures, and he is eager to work with Trump’s administration to protect children. The “Protecting Our Kids from Child Abuse Act” provides a way to sue clinics and entities responsible for harm to minors.
Affected procedures include puberty blockers and surgeries, which are linked to health issues. The bill prohibits federal funding for any gender-transition procedures for minors and allows lawsuits up to 30 years after the harmed individual turns 18.
