Wednesday evening on Fox News' "The Will Cain Show," Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced that DHS will suspend all grants to non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Noem stated that the DHS has stopped funding that is being misused by NGOs to promote illegal immigration. She expressed concern over the large amounts of taxpayer money spent by the federal government that has been sent to NGOs to facilitate immigration. Noem emphasized the need to reassess such funding, ensuring taxpayer dollars are used to enhance the country's security.
Noem confirmed that the DHS would follow President Trump's mandate to secure the border, deport illegal immigrants, and prevent taxpayer funds from supporting illegal activity. Catholic Charities, one of the largest NGOs, urged the administration to reconsider this decision, emphasizing their long history of assisting vulnerable populations in the U. S.
Noem revealed that many NGOs operate in Mexico, encouraging illegal immigrants to cross the border, referring to this as a “shadow government” that undermines U. S. laws. She described these organizations as engaging in operations that government cannot legally conduct, ultimately using taxpayer money to undermine national security. This announcement follows Noem’s decision to revoke a Temporary Protected Status order for Venezuelans.
