Trump administration freezes federal aid outside of Social Security and Medicare

President Donald Trump's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has issued a two-page memo to freeze all federal aid programs, except for Social Security, Medicare, and certain direct assistance. This action is set to begin on Tuesday night and may affect lower-income households that depend on Medicaid, school food programs, Section 8 rental assistance, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

The memo indicates that the OMB can make exceptions to this freeze on a case-by-case basis. It claims that using federal resources to support "Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies" wastes taxpayer money without enhancing the lives of citizens. Additionally, it states that both career and political appointees must ensure federal spending aligns with the priorities set by the President.

All federal agencies will be required to review their financial assistance programs to ensure they are consistent with the President's policies. Each impacted program will be monitored by a "senior political appointee," and they are expected to report back by February 10.

The memo specifically points out that agencies will need to identify federal programs that must adhere to the new administrative priorities. Misty Severi, the author of the news piece, is a reporter for Just The News and provides coverage of these developments.
