FBI Wants to "Interview" Trump About Assassination

No living perp and no trial. So why the interview?

Interviewing the victim of a crime makes sense in a case where there is to be a trial or the victim knew the perpetrator and could shed some light on his motives.

The man who tried to assassinate Trump is dead. Trump never knew him.

The FBI is seeking to interview former President Donald Trump in its investigation of the assassination attempt to obtain a victim statement - a standard part of the investigation because he is a crime victim, according to a US official.

There's no trial so a victim impact statement serves no purpose.

The Victim Impact Statement is an important part of the Presentence Investigation Report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.

A PSR includes, among other things, the defendant's criminal and social history; the details of the crime; the financial, social, psychological, and, if relevant, medical impact of the crime on the victims; and any victim impact statements.

Either way, Trump would be wise to avoid an interview with members of a politicized agency with a history of going after him and other political opponents.
