President Donald Trump announced his plan to visit North Carolina soon, claiming the state has been "abandoned by the Democrats" after Hurricane Helene. He will also travel to Los Angeles, California, which recently experienced severe wildfires, and then to Nevada.
In North Carolina, communities like Asheville and Swannanoa suffered from severe flooding and damage due to Hurricane Helene. Residents expressed frustration with the lack of help from government agencies like FEMA, stating they felt abandoned. One resident, Jordan Lanning, criticized the Biden administration's response, saying it was "too late," as it took five days for assistance to arrive and that the President did not visit in person.
FEMA has reported that over $45 million has been allocated for Hurricane Helene relief, with more than $17 million designated for North Carolina and significant amounts for other affected states. Trump has previously condemned the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the hurricane response, calling it a "disgrace" and a "betrayal. "
Additionally, residents reiterated that they had to manage on their own, voicing their discontent with the slow assistance. Trump emphasized the importance of his visit to North Carolina, stating he would be there first before heading to Los Angeles and Nevada.
