Antifa militants attacked an ICE detention center in Portland, Oregon, on Monday night, shortly after President Trump was inaugurated. This act was a response to the Trump administration's efforts on mass deportation and illegal immigration enforcement. No arrests were made, but the group shared plans for more violence against immigration officials on social media.
Video shared on X, previously Twitter, shows around 15 Antifa members in black bloc gear starting fires and confronting federal law enforcement outside the ICE facility. The video, taken by an anarchist, captured them encircling officers while making threats through megaphones. One member mocked the authorities, expressing satisfaction with their involvement.
This ICE center has been a target for Antifa, especially since Trump's first term, with prior incidents of conflict between protesters and federal police. In 2021, Antifa militants set the building on fire during protests against border policies. The group has promised to continue similar actions, referencing the facility's history in social media posts.
Senior editor Andy Ngo reported that some members involved have a history of violence. Meanwhile, ICE has not commented on the incident as the Trump administration rolled out new, strict immigration policies.
