Senate Confirms Rubio in 99 to 0 Vote, Cementing Trump's First Official Cabinet Member

The Senate has confirmed Marco Rubio as the new Secretary of State with a unanimous vote of 99 to 0. This fast-tracked process followed his strong performance during the confirmation hearing, where he received support from both Democrats and Republicans. Rubio is set to lead a State Department that plans to shift focus away from the liberal policies of the Biden administration, particularly emphasizing an "America-First foreign policy. "

Rubio is scheduled to meet with foreign ministers from important U. S. allies soon, aiming to address China's aggressive actions in the Indo-Pacific. He views China as a significant foreign policy challenge and has pledged to confront human rights violations, especially against the Uyghur people.

He will also play a significant role in shaping U. S. Middle East policy, which is expected to provide strong backing for Israel. Rubio mentioned that there are new opportunities in the Middle East thanks to Israel's recent actions against groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. He is overseeing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas following President Trump's tough stance on the situation.

Rubio aims to cut any wasteful spending associated with international organizations that promote policies unfavorable to Israel and the U. S. , such as the International Criminal Court (ICC). He criticized the ICC for attempting to prosecute Israeli officials and warned that this could lead to similar actions against American leaders.

He expressed that U. S. foreign aid should not be seen as charity and should reject the notion that progressive values define success in foreign policy. Many diplomats from the State Department have resigned at the request of the Trump administration, including those who served during Joe Biden’s term. There are also reports of similar resignations being sought within the National Security Council.
