As my last post for 2024 and advice going into 2025, I urge everyone who believes that the election of Trump brings about a perfect solution for truth to pause and consider my perspective. First, I have no connection to Trump’s circle, so please stop sending me ideas or products hoping to catch the attention of the new officials. I live without modern technology, so I am probably less informed about upcoming appointments than most people.
The main point I want to make is this: why does anyone believe their idea or product will be the ultimate solution if the government backs it? Many think that if they can just get the USDA's attention, their solutions like biochar or organic practices will save farming. However, I have to break the bad news: getting noticed by USDA offices likely won’t lead to meaningful change. When Barack Obama became president and Michelle put a garden on the White House lawn, many expected major changes for organic farming. Despite those hopes, the USDA still operated as it did before, with corporate interests dominating.
The USDA holds beliefs contrary to those held by many in the organic community. They tend to see farming in mechanical terms, think composting will lead to starvation, and prioritize exports over local sustainability. They also view small farms as inefficient and hold misconceptions about food safety and health. They believe that government support is necessary to produce reliable food and that farming should be focused on serving military needs.
It is crucial to understand that the governmental shift we hope for is unlikely. Many believe if they could just get their special recipe in front of the right people, everything would improve. This won’t happen. Instead of seeking government favor, we should focus on what we can do ourselves. Shine your light in your own community and share your ideas, recipes, or products without waiting for government support.
Looking at human history shows that governments have been the source of many terrible acts, not businesses or private individuals. Government actions often result in the loss of freedom and property. Organic farmers often wish for government subsidies for organic farming, but this is misguided. Instead of seeking government support, we should work toward eliminating all subsidies and encourage individual responsibility in health and farming.
Let’s put effort into thriving outside of the government’s influence. Why compromise our efforts by seeking government approval? Instead, let’s keep our initiatives private where free choice and personal accountability can thrive. Individuals can create various innovative solutions without relying on government involvement. We need to focus on our strengths and keep working on our projects, staying motivated without government interference.
What unique vision do you have for change?
