Biden Justice Department 'manipulated' crime data to fit Democrats' narrative: retired police officer

A retired police officer, Ken Alexandrow, has criticized the Biden administration's claim that violent crime in the U. S. is at a 50-year low, saying the data has been manipulated. According to the Biden administration, based on FBI statistics, violent crime includes murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Alexandrow, who served for 26 years as a Nashville police officer, argues that the statistics were skewed through changes in how crime is reported.

He explained that crime data comes from police departments which submit their records to the FBI. The Biden administration switched from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which, according to Alexandrow, could alter the statistics significantly. He noted that people generally do not feel safer, and many believed crime rates are not going down.

Alexandrow highlighted that police departments often adjust the statistics to show improvements in crime rates by excluding certain types of crimes. He pointed out that in 2023, 70% of police departments that previously reported under UCR stopped reporting under NIBRS, including major cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City. This lack of reporting leads to lower crime statistics overall.

The Biden administration noted significant decreases in murder and violent crime rates during its tenure, including a 17. 5% drop in murder rates in 2024, and decreases in rape, aggravated assault, and robbery as well. However, the DOJ based these findings on data from only 85 unspecified cities.

Previous reports in 2022 showed updated crime data indicating an increase in violent crimes, contradicting earlier claims of decreases promoted by the administration during a period marked by civil unrest and crime following the pandemic.

Alexandrow asserts that the changes in data reporting have contributed to misleading crime statistics, emphasizing that major urban crime spikes may not be accurately reflected in the new reporting metrics. The article concludes by stating that Fox News has sought comments from various law enforcement agencies regarding these claims.
