Air Force planes will fly deportation flights under Trump order

The U. S. military will use four C-17 and C-130 aircraft to deport around 5,400 migrants currently in detention, as part of the Defense Department's response to President Trump’s national emergency declaration at the southern border. This announcement came from defense officials on Wednesday. The flights are part of a broader deployment that includes 1,500 active-duty troops heading to the border, which is expected to happen by the end of the week.

During the deportation flights, the Department of Homeland Security will provide law enforcement support, and the State Department will handle the necessary diplomatic clearances, according to Acting Secretary of Defense Robert Salesses. The exact destinations for the migrants are still being decided by the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department.

The military aircraft have been stationed in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California. The deployment will involve around 100 airmen, providing adequate crews and maintenance support for the operations. There are also additional aircraft on standby if needed, although details about the specific units involved have not been disclosed.

In addition to the Air Force personnel, approximately 1,500 soldiers (including about 1,000 soldiers and 500 Marines) will be sent to the southern border for support. The Marines were previously assigned to help manage California wildfires but have now been released from that duty as the situation improved.

Defense officials indicated that this is just the beginning, with more military operations planned in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and other federal and state agencies to address various security threats at the borders.
