In the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, Democrats and establishment Republicans pushed a narrative that Donald Trump posed a serious threat to American democracy. They claimed that if Trump won, elections in the U. S. would effectively end. Trump was described as a domestic enemy in a wider global struggle against autocratic leaders like Vladimir Putin. This battle between democracy and autocracy was framed as a central issue, connecting everything from the war in Ukraine to climate change, with the focus on preventing Trump from returning to power.
Despite these efforts, a majority of American voters did not accept this narrative. Many preferred Trump, who pledged to secure the border, end the Ukraine war, reduce the federal government size, investigate the Department of Justice, reverse federal climate policies, and continue appointing conservative judges. Following the election, Biden's administration entered a "lame-duck" phase and attempted to hinder Trump's policy plans, which voters supported.
Recently, the Biden administration began moving border wall materials away from the southern border for auction and is urged to close detention facilities to complicate Trump's immigration plans. After losing the election, Biden also escalated military support for Ukraine. Additionally, the Office of Personnel Management made it harder for Trump to change the federal workforce, requiring him to propose new rules instead of acting through executive orders. Biden pardoned his son Hunter and is considering preemptive pardons for allies likely to face investigation.
Cabinet members are moving quickly to allocate funds and implement new policies before losing power. This rush to act against the will of the voters is seen by some as either commendable or disgraceful but is ultimately viewed as undemocratic. The political establishment appears to prioritize its interests over genuine democratic principles, manipulating public concern for democracy and human rights to serve its agenda. It’s crucial to recognize when individuals exploit these principles for their benefit and to stop being misled by these tactics.
