A recent analysis shows that the Biden-Harris government is looking to hire up to 1,200 staff for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) positions, with salaries reaching $310,000, totaling around $160 million a year. This recruitment is happening quickly to onboard new federal employees before Donald J. Trump, the President-elect, takes office in January. After Trump's election, at least 33 DEI roles were advertised, and the application period for these positions is set to end before his inauguration as the 47th President.
Trump has promised to remove federal employees who might oppose his policies, but this hiring effort seems aimed at filling government positions with new supporters of DEI to counter him. For example, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently posted a job for a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health, offering a salary up to $221,900, with applications closing on November 29.
Agencies like the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC) are also hiring for DEI roles, with a position that offers a $310,000 salary. Other agencies, including the FAA and SEC, are seeking DEI-focused candidates, while some have paused their DEI job postings, like the State Department's canceled Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Advisor role.
