Mike Johnson is criticized for failing to uphold conservative values as House Speaker. He released a 1,547-page spending bill, marketed as a "continuing resolution," which contradicts his earlier promises to avoid large omnibus bills. In September, Johnson stated he would not support such spending packages, yet he has done exactly that, leading to disappointment among conservative voters.
The new spending bill includes many unnecessary provisions, like funding for "American music tourism" and consumer safety standards for batteries. A concerning aspect is the one-year extension of the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC), which has been linked to censorship efforts against conservative voices online. Critics argue that Johnson supported the continuation of an agency that undermines free speech.
Rep. Chip Roy highlighted the lack of seriousness in Congress about spending, noting that unchecked spending limits the ability to reduce government and maintain freedom. Johnson has a history of backing Biden's policies and has often aligned more with Democrats than Republicans. He once claimed he would not approve additional funds for Ukraine without addressing U. S. -Mexico border security but later reversed this stance.
Johnson's leadership is described as ineffective, with his promises viewed as unreliable. He tends to yield under pressure in policy discussions, disappointing Republican constituents. The critique portrays him as contributing to the status quo and being ineffective in fighting for conservative principles, ultimately harming conservative voters.
