Suspect in Second Trump Assassination Attempt Hit with Two Charges In Federal Court, Neither for Trying to Kill Trump

A Florida golf course became the backdrop for an alleged assassination attempt on Sunday in yet another shocking attack on former President Donald Trump.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was taken into custody after Secret Service agents fired shots at him at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, three senior law enforcement sources said.

A person named Ryan Routh resided for decades in North Carolina, property records show.

“This was the first I heard about it. Was my father shot or injured?” he told the Daily Mail.

The son of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man named as the suspect in a possible assassination attempt near Donald Trump's Florida golf club on Sunday, has said his father is not a violent person and did not even believe him to own a gun.

Later in a rambling text, Routh appeared to justify his father's actions.

The 2024 Republican nominee's bulked up Secret Service advance team spotted the shooter in the tree line just two holes from where Trump was golfing.

Special Agent Rafael Barros explained at the press conference on Sunday that Secret Service moves along with Trump and usually surveying one or two holes ahead of him when he goes for a round of golf.

The FBI released a statement two hours after the incident claiming the attack 'appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.

The potential attack was only stopped by the actions of a Secret Service agent, who noticed Routh as he boldly pushed the barrel of his AK-47 through a chain-link fence.

The incident comes as Trump's security detail has been ramped up in the two months since the former president was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.

Trump's golf club is just five miles from his residence at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach and is where the former president is often spotted golfing when he is not on the campaign trail.

According to NBC News, "Court records show more than 100 criminal counts have been filed against Ryan Routh in North Carolina, most in Guilford County, which underlies Greensboro. The exact outcome of each case was not immediately clear Sunday." He has been convicted on multiple charges, including driving with a revoked license, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting an officer, hit-and-run.

The suspected gunman attempted to push the muzzle of an AK-style rifle through the perimeter fence at Trump International Golf Club while Trump was playing a round of golf.

A U.S. Secret Service agent opened fire on Routh before he could carry out his plot.

No one was injured, and Routh fled the scene, leaving behind a Go-Pro camera, an assault rifle, and two backpacks.

Authorities believe these items suggest Routh had carefully planned the attack.

Routh told the publication Semafor last year that he was director of a group he called International Volunteer Center as part of his attempts to support Ukraine's war against Russia.

Routh spoke of his frustration with Ukraine over what he said were roadblocks to admitting foreign fighters, including Afghan commandos, who either volunteered or were available to join Ukraine's war effort.

Routh had previously criticized Trump on social media after saying he supported his first run for president.

" FBI investigates second assassination attempt on Donald Trump 02:37 Routh also used X to signal his support for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and referred to President Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe." In one post also in 2020, he said: "Bernie.... give them hell.... fight to the death." Routh's X account is now suspended.

The radical left has emboldened people like Ryan Routh, turning them from vocal opponents of conservative policies into would-be assassins. This is the consequence of years of incendiary rhetoric from Democratic leaders, Hollywood elites, and the mainstream media.

When Trump is continually painted as a villain and his supporters as “deplorables,” it’s only a matter of time before someone takes that narrative to its violent conclusion.
