Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced the successful shutdown of a birth tourism center in the Houston area that facilitated the birth of over 1,000 babies to foreign nationals, particularly from China.
Paxton aimed to halt the exploitation of the U.S. immigration system through "birth tourism."
He filed a lawsuit against the De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in April for violating Texas laws by allowing foreign nationals to give birth in the state to obtain 'birthright citizenship.'
The center promoted its services on Chinese social media and operated several properties in Houston, often hosting multiple families simultaneously.
They provided guidance on immigration procedures and advised clients on how to conceal their true purpose for traveling to the U.S., which was to give birth.
With the attorney general's actions, the De’Ai Postpartum Care Center will cease its operations and can no longer assist foreign nationals in evading U.S. immigration laws for childbirth.
