The FBI has revealed a significant data breach involving voter information from the 2020 election in Maricopa County, Arizona. A hacker allegedly confessed to the crime but faced no charges.
The hacker claimed to have scraped data from 633,000 voter files, including sensitive information on domestic violence victims, judges, and law enforcement.
The hacker stored the files at home but destroyed them shortly before an FBI raid.
Despite the confession, local prosecutors and U.S. Attorney's Office declined to press charges, citing the data was publicly accessible.
The FBI's investigation concluded in 2023, and it was determined that the hacker was not working for foreign agents, nor were any votes altered.
