A heavily armed man was arrested outside the Trump National Golf Course in Los Angeles just two days before President Trump was scheduled to arrive for a visit.
The arrested individual, Jeanine John Taele, 38, from Downey, California, was apprehended by plainclothes FBI agents on August 2, 2026.
Taele was found carrying an illegally modified AR platform rifle, a 1911 .45 caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and bulk ammunition. Authorities also discovered two radio signal devices and notebooks containing concerning statements.
The incident began when federal agents observed Taele taking photos and videos on the golf course, reportedly monitoring security measures related to the president’s upcoming visit.
Lomita Sheriff’s Station deputies noted that Taele was already under investigation for robbery by El Segundo police at the time of his arrest.
During a pat-down, deputies found a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition in Taele's pocket. A search of his vehicle yielded further weapons and ammunition.
Taele was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition.
Following the arrest, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force executed a search warrant at Taele’s home to continue the investigation.
The case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, with additional charges being considered as the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have stated there is no credible threat to the local community at this time despite the situation.
The incident highlights concerns surrounding security and the presence of firearms during high-profile events, especially those involving public figures like President Trump. The investigation is still active, and updates may follow regarding any additional charges against Taele.
