Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, the newly nominated Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Michigan, faces serious allegations regarding his financial connections with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
El-Sayed's campaign has received more than $115,000 from individuals associated with CAIR.
CAIR has been labeled a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates and has faced designations in Florida and Texas.
The organization was previously named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-funding trial.
Despite El-Sayed's pledge to remove money from politics, his donor list includes 41 people linked to CAIR, including national figures like Manal Fakhoury and Eyas Abdeen, as well as his father-in-law, Jukaku Tayeb.
Tayeb is part of the founding committee of the Islamic Society of North America, which has links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
One notable donor, CAIR executive director Nihad Awad, has previously made controversial comments in support of Hamas.
El-Sayed's connections to CAIR and the substantial campaign contributions from its members have raised significant concerns, complicating his political aspirations amidst claims that the organization has no ties to terrorism.
