Since 2013, the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the Black Lives Matter Global Network and our allies have fought against attacks on black bodies and our communities.

We have brought focus to issues that disproportionately impact black people including the degradation of the environment, mass incarceration, the broken money-bail system, low wages and poverty.

Adams is a fierce advocate for healthy foods in poor black neighborhoods.

In 2010, Abrams became the first black woman to serve as a party leader in the state's House of Representatives.

Her opponent Republican, Brian Kemp, who is also Georgia's secretary of state, is engaging in a blatant effort to disenfranchise black voters.

James, the first black woman nominated by a major party for a statewide office in New York, currently serves as New York City's public advocate.

Known nationally for her harsh criticism of the Trump administration, she advocates for women, children, black folks and the poor.

James Cromwell: ‘There Will Be Blood in the Streets’ if Trump Isn’t Stopped

Though James Cromwell was honored at the fourth annual Carney Awards for his work as a character actor, the industry veteran has worked as a political activist his entire career.

Cromwell later echoed his statement during his acceptance speech for one of the six Carney Awards given out that night.

Named after the late actor Art Carney, the Carney Awards recognize Hollywood's leading character actors for their work in theater, film, and television.

Host Patton Oswalt started the evening on a lighter note, catering his jokes to the crowd of character actors.

As Lucille, Walter said she her job was to flesh out the storylines revolving around the show's lead Jason Bateman, highlighting the importance of character actors in rounding out many of today's popular television shows and movies.

"Webster's dictionary says that character actors specialize in playing eccentric and unusual people. Not all supporting actors do that, but character actors do," she told Variety.

"In a lot of shows, the character actors fill out the picture."
