Cesar Sayoc, Jr., a 56-year-old man living in Aventura, Florida, was
identified as the suspect in the mail-bombing case that has gripped the
nation in recent days, a senior law-enforcement official confirmed to
The Daily Beast. Sayoc is a registered Republican who was charged with making a bomb threat
in 2002, according to documents cited by The Daily Beast. The outcome
of Sayoc’s 2002 case is unclear. Documents also show that Sayoc was
convicted of theft in 2014 and 2013, and battery in 2013. In 2012, he
filed for bankruptcy, declaring in court filings that he lived with his
mother. Sayoc’s van, found at the scene of his arrest, is reportedly
plastered with political decals, including “Dishonest Media,” “CNN
Sucks,” and a Trump/Pence sticker, according to photos tweeted by people
who believe they have seen the same vehicle. NBC reports that officials
confirm they found pictures of Trump on the van.
