Former Schumer Aide: Dems Will Lose the House in 2020 If Impeachment Is Pursued

Democrats are set to take control of the House soon and impeachment has been on the minds of many.

If it's a path House Democrats ultimately pursue, they could pay a hefty price come 2020, says a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

"If you try to impeach him without the Republicans coming on board to actually remove him, it's a waste of time, it's a waste of political capital, and it will lead to the Democrats losing their majority and Donald Trump being reelected," Christopher Hahn told Fox News's Tucker Carlson.

Hahn said he doesn't believe Democrats will seek President Trump's impeachment because Democratic leadership understands the best way to remove the president is at the ballot box in 2020, noting that there would need to be bipartisan agreement if that path were pursued.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has been against impeachment, arguing that it's "Not someplace that I think we should go."

If impeachment proceedings began, "It would have to be bipartisan and the evidence would have to be so conclusive," she added.

"Barring some major revelation in the Mueller report, I don't think you will see impeachment on the agenda for the next Congress," he said.
