Anti-Voter ID Dem Candidate Requires ID To Enter Campaign Events

Bob Brooks, a Democratic congressional candidate from Pennsylvania, is facing backlash for requiring attendees to show identification at his campaign events, despite being an outspoken critic of voter ID laws.

Brooks is endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders and is running in a competitive race against U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie for Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District.

He served as a firefighter and is currently the president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association.

In an April candidate questionnaire, Brooks criticized Republican-backed election laws and stated that Pennsylvania conducts well-managed elections.

His campaign has been reported to deny entry to at least one person who did not present ID, which has raised accusations of hypocrisy given his stance against voter ID laws.

The national Republican Congressional Committee has commented on Brooks' contradictory actions, suggesting he does not prioritize inclusive voting while imposing ID requirements at his events.

Current Pennsylvania voting laws require ID only for first-time voters in an election district, and acceptable forms of ID are varied, with some not needing proof of citizenship.

Brooks' requirement for ID at campaign events contradicts his public opposition to voter ID measures, leading to criticism and debate around the consistency of his policies and actions.
