Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, caused significant backlash within his party after he appeared in a video at the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention. In the video, he introduced fellow Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick, a Republican.
Fetterman identified himself as a “common sense Democrat” and expressed his commitment to America, rejecting extreme views like socialism.
He praised McCormick, stating he would be a hardworking senator for Pennsylvania and promised to collaborate with former President Trump to support the steel industry.
The reaction from Democrats was overwhelmingly negative, with various comments criticizing Fetterman for speaking at a Republican event. Some described him as lazy and likened his actions to a betrayal.
Responding to the criticism, Fetterman emphasized that despite their political differences, he and McCormick are “Team PA” and have worked together to benefit the state’s economy, including transportation and affordable housing improvements.
Fetterman reassured fellow Democrats of his loyalty to the party, affirming that he would remain a lifelong Democrat and continue to support his party, even if the Senate shifts in November.
Fetterman's video appearance at a Republican convention sparked intense criticism from his party, highlighting divisions within the Democratic ranks. Despite the backlash, he maintained his position as a Democrat and stressed his commitment to collaborative efforts that benefit Pennsylvania.
