Earth Day 2025: Our Power, Our Planet, Our Propaganda

Earth Day 2025, celebrated by the environmental left, has a theme titled “Our Power, Our PlanetTM. ” This trademarked slogan is criticized as being empty and reflects poor reasoning. The organizers have set a goal to triple global renewable electricity generation by 2030, despite it being unrealistic and already expensive.

1. Ambitious Goals: The goal to triple renewable electricity generation to approximately 27,000 terawatt-hours by 2030 is deemed unreasonable, given the current levels and expansion difficulties.

2. Economic Viability: The renewables industry, including wind and solar power, has grown due to extensive subsidies in developed nations. The claim that renewable energy is "cheap" is viewed as propaganda since it requires significant financial support to remain viable.

3. Electricity Generation Costs: Comparisons of generation costs in 2024 dollars per megawatt-hour reveal that renewable sources are not competitive. Adding backup costs for reliability significantly elevates the price of renewables.

4. Environmental Impact: Claims that renewable energy is "clean" overlook the negative environmental effects like pollution, habitat destruction, and waste management issues associated with renewables.

5. Climate Crisis Claims: The assertion of a climate crisis is challenged. Reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicate low likelihood of high-emission scenarios, contradicting alarmist claims about climate impacts.

6. Weather Trends: Historical climate data shows no significant trends in temperatures, extreme weather events like tornadoes, wildfires, or droughts when correlated with greenhouse gas increases.

7. Fossil Fuels & Human Welfare: Opposition to fossil fuels is framed as an anti-human ideology that neglects the benefits of fossil fuels to human progress. The historical context discusses the negative impact of bans like DDT on health and population growth.

8. A Cynical View of Humanity: The perspective offered suggests that some environmental ideologues view humans as detrimental to the planet, overlooking their capability for problem-solving and innovation.

The overarching message of Earth Day is perceived as advocating for sacrifices made by others for environmental goals. The narrative suggests a disconnect between environmental agendas and human flourishing, emphasizing that true progress requires recognizing the value of human innovation alongside environmental consciousness.
