A generation of strategic or protest voters created by the Iraq War, the destruction of traditional education, the financial crisis and ensuing bank bailouts, recently topped up by the left’s awkward, anti-worker aversion to Brexit.
Those people mostly vote UKIP, another right-leaning party, or not at all, now.

A prime minister with a record of irreligion and adultery, who used the British public purse to support nonsensical foreign wars, domestic degeneracy, and whose corruption scandals rival those of his own bĂȘte noire, Vladimir Putin.
Her premiership looks likely to be driven by the same corporate perspectives, with her stance on Boris's "net zero" climate change targets pushing up UK energy prices unlikely to alter from her predecessors'.
Despite no philosophically conservative credentials, the UK media has sought to portray some of Truss's more establishment alliances as "hard right".
The "scandal" over her meetings with the American Legislative Exchange Council, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and the Heritage Foundation
In modern American political parlance, these entities are better described as pro-immigration, centrist, neoliberal, or corporatist.
This is precisely where Truss falls, especially on immigration.
