Israel Targets Palestinian Group's Base in Lebanon

Israeli aircraft struck a Palestinian group's base in eastern Lebanon on Monday, Lebanon's state news agency said, an attack that escalates tensions as Israel expands efforts to push back against Iran and its allies in the region.

Abo Wael Issam, a senior official in the Palestinian group said "We were targeted because we are part of this axis" resisting Israel in the region.

Iranian forces have attempted to launch rockets and missiles at Israel from Syria three times last year, according to Israeli military officials.

The suspected Israeli strikes in Lebanon are the first since 2013 when it hit another base used by the Palestinian group, according to Lebanese state media.

Following Israeli airstrikes in Syria overnight Saturday to prevent what Israel said was a planned drone attack against it, Mr. Netanyahu warned Israel would act against any country threatening it in the region.

Israel has threatened in the past to take military action in Lebanese territory to prevent the transfer of advanced Iranian military technology to Hezbollah.

"From now on we will face the Israeli drones in the skies of Lebanon and when they enter the skies of Lebanon we will work on bringing them down," Mr. Nasrallah said during the speech.
