Putin proposes summit with Trump and Xi to discuss Ukraine deal, WSJ says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested a summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This proposal emerges amid improving relations between Trump and Putin.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Putin’s suggestion for a summit is intended to negotiate an end to the four-year-long Ukraine conflict in a manner favorable to Russia.

The proposal reportedly originated from a telephone call between Trump and Putin on October 9, which also led to a deal for the U.S. to purchase Russian diesel and an executive order waiving certain sanctions on Moscow.

The Kremlin has floated the idea of holding this trilateral discussion during the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled for November 18-19 in Shenzhen.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that discussions for a potential meeting are ongoing, but no specific agenda or agreement is in place yet.

A senior U.S. official stated that while Trump has not yet agreed to the summit, he may be open to the idea.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized Trump's diesel deal with Putin, claiming it could embolden Russia and prolong the conflict.

The potential summit underscores growing ties between the U.S. and Russia, though it faces scrutiny from Ukraine. The situation remains fluid, with no definitive agreement reached among the leaders.
