Republican governors unite in support of Texas's challenge against Biden's border policies. The Supreme Court allowed the removal of razor wire installed by Texas at the border, which Texas deployed as a barrier against illegal immigration near Eagle Pass. This move was challenged in court, and despite a decision from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in Texas's favor, the Supreme Court overturned it. Conservative justices Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett sided with the liberals.
Texas officials, including Governor Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, expressed their intent to continue measures to reinforce the border. The Supreme Court's decision is not the end for Texas, and the fight for the state's sovereignty continues. Governor Abbott declared an "invasion" under Article I, § 10, Clause 3, asserting Texas's right to self-defense.
This response has drawn backing from several other Republican-led states, fueling a growing standoff between state and federal authorities. Twenty-five Republican governors have signed a joint statement in support of Governor Abbott, emphasizing constitutional principles and pledging ongoing assistance to Texas.
The statement, signed by the governors of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming, asserts that the Biden Administration has abdicated its constitutional duties to the states, justifying Texas's actions to protect the sovereignty of its state and the nation.
