In 2021, New York City's largest police union filed a suit in state court in Staten Island against former Mayor Bill de Blasio to halt his administration's vaccination mandate for city employees. Police Benevolent Association (PBA) argued that the mandate was "far broader and more coercive" than similar measures taken by the federal government and other states and municipalities at a time when Covid infection rates are declining
An important development in the ongoing legal battle with the federal government over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate
- Justice Lyle Frank of the Manhattan Supreme Court ruled that the city's vaccination requirement for the Police Benevolent Association was invalid "to the extent it has been used to impose a new condition of employment" on the union.
- All members who were terminated and/or put on leave without pay as a result of non-compliance will be reinstated.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that a court in New York ruled that the NYPD could not terminate an officer who refused to take the shot and had sued the city over its mandatory COVID vaccination policy.
- Alexander Deletto, a 43-year-old police officer, had his request for a religious exemption granted after the city failed to provide a specific explanation for rejecting his appeal.
