Fiona Hill and Angela Stent gave something rather inconvenient away in their latest article for Foreign Affairs magazine. I have archived it here, for the non-subscribers like me. The article is titled “The World Putin Wants” and discusses Russia’s relationship with Ukraine.

- In April 2022, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement
- Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries
- While Ukraine has gained some territory back in the north, the nation is now almost entirely cut off from the Black Sea in the south

- Tens of thousands of people have died as a result of the conflict
