Protesters forced acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan to end his speech at a recent event in Washington, D.C. On Monday, McAleenan was invited to give remarks and then participate in a discussion session at an annual immigration policy meeting hosted by Georgetown Law.
Protesters kept standing up, holding banners and shouting to prevent the acting secretary from being heard by other attendees.
McAleenan said he's a career law enforcement official who has fought to protect free speech and other American values, but would leave the event if protesters continued.
"I've dedicated my career to protecting the right to free speech and all the values we hold dear in America from all threat," he stated.
After his third attempt to deliver remarks, McAleenan left the event.
Activist group CREDO claimed responsibility for the protest, saying it did not want to give a platform for the Trump administration's border security policies.
Following multiple attempts to start, he thanks hosts and departs.
