Cornell Law Professor Says Harvard is Just a Symptom of a Much Bigger Problem in All of Education

Professor William Jacobson from Cornell Law recently discussed the issues surrounding Harvard University and broader education problems during a FOX News appearance. He argues that the situation at Harvard reflects deeper, systemic issues in education.

1. Antisemitism as a Symptom:

Jacobson believes that antisemitic protests at universities, including Harvard, signal a larger problem involving anti-American and anti-capitalism sentiments within educational institutions.

2. Cultural Clash in Education:

According to Jacobson, there is a significant cultural conflict at campuses that prompts many Americans to question the funding and support of such institutions.

3. Lack of Diversity in Academia:

He highlights the disparity in political representation among faculty, noting that only 3% of Harvard faculty identify as conservative, contrasting sharply with the general population where 37% identify as conservative.

4. Radical Left's Takeover:

Jacobson suggests that the far-left has progressively taken control of the education system, including K-12 and higher education, altering the balance from a relatively even split of liberal and conservative professors about 20-25 years ago to a current ratio of nearly 30 to 1.

5. Historical Context:

He reflects on how 25 years ago, campuses encouraged open discussions with both liberal and conservative viewpoints. He traces the shift to radical left activists who have controlled hiring over the last few decades, resulting in a loss of ideological diversity in academia.

6. Resistance to Change:

The professor asserts that educational institutions, including Harvard, are resistant to losing their influence and control, especially in the face of challenges from figures like Trump regarding policies and funding.

Jacobson argues that the problems seen at Harvard are indicative of much larger issues within the entire educational system, driven by a one-sided ideological perspective. This has led to calls for re-evaluation of how institutions are funded and how they engage with differing viewpoints.
