Conservative Catches Up Ahead Of South Korean Election

Following the impeachment of South Korea's president Yoon Suk Yeol in December and his removal in April, the conservative People Power Party has struggled in the polls. Currently, the Democratic Party of Korea, led by former president Moon Jae-in, holds the lead. However, recent polling shows the conservative candidate gaining ground as the election approaches. This shift may be linked to the conservatives’ last-minute candidate change to former prime minister Han Duck-soo, amid turmoil within the party after the impeachment crisis. Meanwhile, Democratic frontrunner Lee Jae-myung faces criminal charges related to election law and a property scandal.
