Sanders was a big fan of Hugo Chavez who transformed Venezuela from a thriving and rich country to a socialist and failing one.  He is proud that he helped radicalize the Democrat party with his socialist ideas.  Hard to understand why since ChaveZ's Venezuela is now a failed state in which the people suffer while the socialist elite live high on the hog.  That reality strongly suggests he does not care, as claimed, for the health and welfare of the people.  Rather he and his socialists counterparts care about the riches and grand lifestyle elite socialists obviously enjoy.  He is the very personification of that fact.  He and his wife have three homes and fancy cars.  How many of those things do the peasants he claims to love so much have?  Answer: He is a total socialist Hypocrite.   http://patrioticviralnews.com/articles/socialist-bernie-sanders-happily-admits-that-his-far-left-policies-have-now-become-mainstream-for-the-democratic-party/

5.   This is what happens when progressives have too much power or control.  This is not to say only progressives can fall into doing unsavory things.  Others can and do, too.  It is just that the progressives have controlled our national cultural and political discourse for so long that it has gone past the danger point.  This piece provides some insight into the reasons for concern. For example: "Progressives love to paint themselves as public servants and they promote their jobs as champions of the people. Last week Michelle Obama dropped some truth and revealed that government is actually your parent and their job is to tell you to eat your carrots and go to bed on time. Add this to the conversation and the mindset and source of progressivism begins to give rise to concerns of what the ultimate results are.  Far, far too many adherents of progressivism seem to have little understanding as to what they have totally embraced.  As the title of this piece notes, "Progressivism is Neo-Communism."  Quote: "The obsessed and irrational infatuation of intolerant Millennials with neo-communism they euphemistically call progressivism can be understood when one takes into account academia’s professorial and administrative cadre of communist indoctrinators and the world-wide curricula similar to Common Core, developed with advice, textbooks, and funds from elitist billionaires who want to re-engineer societies around the globe in the borderless and diabolically mish-mashed coexist image of their totalitarian dreams of control. 6.  The Democrat National Committee (DNC) has revealed its plans for the future which amount to just another step towards full blown socialism and complete economic disaster. The only beneficiaries are Democrat constituents but their lofty plans levy massive burdens on average working American tax payers. Further, it exacerbates current cultural problems resulting from the political left progressives and Democrat party's promotion of class warfare and identity politics. 

Quote: "Mass amnesty, trillions in Medicare spending, and publicly funded abortion are just some of the ideas in a set of policy proposals that a left-leaning policy group gave to Democratic bigwigs this past week. These and other proposals were provided to Democratic taste-makers, and obtained by the Free Beacon, at the 2018 Democracy Alliance fall conference held this week in Atlanta. Attendees received copies of Everyone's Economy, a report from left-leaning public policy organization Demos. The organization is chaired by Amelia Warren Tyagi, daughter of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), and funded by liberal billionaire George Soros."

The brief's stated goal is to outline "...an economic agenda that places both race and class at the forefront," while responding to the populist appeals of President Donald Trump. Many of its proposals conspicuously benefit Democratic constituencies, with questionable gain for or outright harm to others. Central to Demos's policy priorities is a massive expansion of federal welfare spending. Everyone's Economy explicitly backs Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I., Vt.) Medicare for All plan, which is slated to cost $1.4 trillion per year. Demos claims it can save $476 billion by cutting "administrative waste" from private insurers and a further $116 billion by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices directly.  Demos would also expand federal welfare programs such as SNAP and TANF, even as their rolls are already overextended. And it would increase Social Security spending by more than $48 billion per year by adding a benefit increase of $65 per person per month. All of this spending would contribute to an already-enormous welfare state. Economist Nicholas Eberstadt has estimated government transfer payments, now in the trillions annually, have expanded twelve times over since 1960, eclipsing all other government spending. Analyst Brian Riedl determined the entirety of the $82 trillion deficit America is projected to accrue, "comes from the Social Security and Medicare shortfalls and their resulting interest costs." Demos's Medicare for All proposal provides services regardless of citizenship status, meaning America's 11 million illegal immigrants might receive federally funded coverage. That would not be the only benefit to that group, however. Everyone's Economy calls for immediate legal status for illegal immigrants, with an eight-year path to citizenship. It would also remove legal barriers to reentry upon deportation, and pass a "clean" DREAM Act, all "without compromising on aggressive enforcement or ‘border security.'" 61 percent of Americans believe current border security is "inadequate."Demos also backs ending any federal agreement with local and state authorities to detain illegal immigrants: in other words, a nation-wide sanctuary city policy. It would further support mandating defense counsel in all civil proceedings (under current law, defense counsel is only required in criminal proceedings). In practice, that would mean every deportation proceeding becoming an intractable legal battle, contributing to the enormous immigration court backlog."
