As
the article points out, for several years the EPA has mandated a
non-existant product be used in the production of bio-fuels and then
when refiners cannot do it, EPA hits them with a fine for failure to
comply. The refiners pay the fines and pass their added costs to
consumers at the gas pump. A January 2013 court decision ruled that the
EPA could not continue their past practices. However, EPA standards
for 2013 bio-fuel production largely ignore the court's ruling so yet
again refiners will be unable to produce the product yet will be stuck
with fines for failure to comply and, yes, consumers will continue to
pay more at the pump. This is an example of our government serving both
the interests of our nation's refiners and the consuming
public.
