The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been accused of applying double standards in its investigative approaches toward two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Investigations conducted prior to the 2020 election have prompted concerns about bias and accountability.
1. Doubling Down on Trump:
The FBI initiated two significant investigations, Crossfire Hurricane and Oxferd Comma, aimed at damaging Trump. These investigations relied on unverified allegations that Trump colluded with Russia, primarily promoted by the Clinton campaign.
Crossfire Hurricane involved unauthorized surveillance under the Obama administration, leading to misconduct by FBI officials, including the falsification of evidence to secure warrants.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller ultimately found no evidence of collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, and a subsequent report confirmed the FBI had no basis for starting this investigation.
2. Protective Measures for Biden:
In contrast, an operation named Round River sought to counter accusations of corruption regarding Biden and his family. Despite having informants with information about alleged corruption, the FBI labeled these concerns as Russian disinformation and dismissed those who brought them up as conspiracy theorists.
Various agencies and media collaborated to protect Biden's candidacy. A letter signed by former intelligence officials falsely claimed a report about Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a Russian campaign to influence the election, which was coordinated with the Biden campaign.
3. Suppression of Information:
Leading up to the 2020 election, social media platforms, influenced by the FBI's directives, censored the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. This censorship was later acknowledged by former executives of Twitter as being a mistake.
An environment was created where legitimate concerns about Biden’s activities were silenced while aggressive investigations were conducted against Trump without substantial evidence.
4. Lack of Accountability:
No serious consequences have been faced by individuals in the FBI or other involved agencies for the perceived misconduct and bias shown in the investigations against Trump and Biden.
The differentiation in how the FBI conducted its investigations into Trump and Biden has raised significant questions about ethical standards in federal law enforcement. While Trump was aggressively pursued based on questionable allegations, Biden was reportedly shielded from scrutiny despite credible claims of corruption. This situation reflects broader concerns about the integrity of federal investigations and has implications for political accountability moving forward.
