Rand Paul Just Short of Forcing Vote on Audit the Fed Bill

Soon, the Federal Reserve could be forced for the first time to open its books and expose its machinations to Congress.

Senator Rand Paul (shown, R-Ky.) reports that he is “about seven votes short” of the 60 votes he believes would be procedurally sufficient to get a vote in the Senate.

In an interview with Kitco News just moments after he left the stage at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, Paul explained that while the House of Representatives has passed numerous measures aimed at auditing the Federal Reserve, it is “taking forever in the Senate.”

He promises that he will keep trying, however, and he told Kitco News that he would be looking to bring Democrats on board as co-sponsors this time around in an effort to expand the reach of the measure.

Paul reports that he has targeted one influential Democrat in particular to be a co-sponsor: Bernie Sanders.

Under Barack Obama, National Debt Increases $100 Million Every Hour of Every Day

What took other presidents more than 200 years to do, Barack Obama has done in one year, and he continues doing it year in, year out.

During the Barack Obama administration, $1.1 trillion dollars has been added every year to the national debt.

This is not exactly the legacy one would expect from a man who, as a senator in 2006 said that “increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren.”

Ironcially, as president, Barack Obama has laid upon the backs of those very children and grandchildren a debt that increases by about $100 million every hour, every day.

It isn’t surprising to learn, then, that Barack Obama is the first president in the history of the United States to not have a single year of three percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP).

Obama Said Hillary Will Continue his Legacy – and Indeed She Will!

This Fall’s Presidential Debates

Hillary and even Bernie assured the Democratic convention again and again how much President Obama has revived the economy from the “mess” that Bush left. While Trump centers his disdain on the TPP (much as he knocked Jeb Bush out by saying that the invasion of Iraq was a mistake), he can reply, “What recovery? Have you voters really recovered from 2008?”

Hillary and other speechmakers at the Democratic convention criticized Trump for saying that “things are bad.” But according to the July 13 NBC/WSJ poll, 73% of voters believe that the country is going “off on the wrong track.” If Trump shifts his epithet from simply “Crooked Hillary” to the more nuanced “Crooked Wall Street and their candidate, Crooked Hillary,” he’ll score a ratings spurt.

Debt deflation and shrinking markets over the next two years do not provide much hope for increasing the minimum wage – which wouldn’t help much if one can’t find a job in the first place! By 2018 the continued stagnation of the 99 Percent may lead to a midterm wipeout of Democrats (assuming that Hillary wins this year against Trump), catalyzing an alternative party (assuming that she does not blow up the world in her neocon military escalation on the borders of Russia and China).

The problem with Trump is not mistrust; it is that nobody knows what policies he will back. The media are giving him the same silent treatment they did with Bernie, while accusing him of being in Putin’s pocket. He did admit selling some real estate to Russian nationals. Perhaps some of these gains fueled his presidential campaign …

The solution is not to save the Democratic Party, but to replace it. The debate reminds me of that about the Soviet Union in the 1950s: Is it a degenerated workers’ state, or a Stalinist bureaucratic mutation going the opposite direction from real socialism?

I wonder how many years it will take for Hillary to end up booed so loudly that she has to leave hotels and other speaking venues via their back alleys, much as Lyndon Johnson had to sneak out to avoid the anti-war booers leading leading up to the 1968 election.

FBI's Comey warns of 'terrorist diaspora' out of Syria if ISIS defeated

FBI Director James Comey is warning that even if ISIS is defeated in Syria, it won't make the west any safer.

Comey believes that hundreds of ISIS trained terrorists would fan out across Europe and the US, continuing the fight even if Islamic State ceases to exist as an organized force.

New York Times:

“At some point there is going to be a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” Mr. Comey said at a cybersecurity conference at Fordham University. “Not all of the Islamic State killers are going to die on the battlefield.”

Mr. Comey predicted that the military coalition would eventually succeed in crushing the Islamic State, but that “through the fingers of that crush are going to come hundreds of really dangerous people and they are going to flow primarily to Western Europe.” But some, he said, could well end up in the United States.

He drew a parallel between this scenario and the formation of Al Qaeda more than a quarter-century ago, which drew from fighters who had been radicalized fighting in Afghanistan in the 1980s and early 1990s.

“This is 10 times that or more,” Mr. Comey said. “This is an order of magnitude greater than anything we’ve seen before.”

Mr. Comey said the American public got a glimpse of what this threat would look like in the terrorist attacks in the past year in Brussels and Paris. “We in the American counterterrorism business are constantly focused on that — that’s not here yet, but that challenge is going to come,” he said.

Philadelphia Vs. Cleveland: Divided We Stand

Do Americans share Philadelphia's belief in Clinton's greatness and in the magisterial achievements of the Obama presidency?
Let us see. Fifty-six percent of Americans believe Clinton should have been indicted; 67 percent believe she is neither trustworthy nor honest. And 75 percent of Americans think that, under Obama, the nation is headed in the wrong direction.
After Cleveland, Trump took a 62-23 lead among white high school graduates, those who constitute a disproportionate share of our cops, firemen, soldiers and Marines -- and those interred in Arlington National Cemetery.
Given that the media are mostly "progressives," why do Americans who rely on that media hold so negative an opinion of Clinton, and reject the direction in which Obama is taking their country?
Does the reality they perceive help to explain it?
Consider. Obama did inherit a disastrous economy and growth has been at or near 2 percent a year since then. But this is not the growth we knew in the Reagan era.
And what, other than the trade policies we pursued, explains the deindustrialization of America, the loss of manufacturing plants and jobs, and China's shouldering us aside to become the world's No. 1 industrial power.

Virginia governor and Hillary supporter tried to guarantee 200,000 thousand extra votes for her.  But the Virginia Supreme Court shut down his voter fraud scheme. Quote: "A huge vote bump expected by the Hillary Clinton campaign in the state of Virginia just vanished, thanks to that state’s Supreme Court, which Friday struck down the controversial executive order by Democrat Gov. Rep. Mia Love wants to limit congressional bills to one subject at a time

Rep. Mia Love wants to crack down on Congress dumping controversial legislation into unrelated, must-pass bills in the middle of the night.
The Utah Republican has introduced a measure to limit bills in Congress to one subject at a time. It would prevent lawmakers from bundling things together or folding legislation into large appropriations bills. Each bill would rise and fall on its own merits.
"Members of both parties have made a habit of passing complex, thousand-page bills without hearings, amendments or debate," Love said. "That process and the collusion that goes with it are why we are $18 trillion in debt and why the American people have lost trust in elected officials."
Love's proposal takes a page out of the Utah Constitution, which requires the Legislature pass bills containing only one subject and that is clearly expressed in the title.

It’s Time to Consider the Libertarian Ticket

Your editorial calls the Libertarian Party’s Gary Johnson-William Weld ticket an “honorable alternative” to the presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees, and indeed it is (“The Libertarian Alternative,” May 31). If Messrs. Johnson and Weld were the Republican standard bearers rather than the Libertarian ones, they would enjoy the full-throated support of conservatives and classical liberals who cherish the GOP’s legacy of free markets and limited government. They are two successful former governors with unimpeachable conservative credentials on economic matters, tolerant views on social issues and bipartisan appeal to boot. In this election cycle, where the major parties offer voters a poor choice, the Johnson-Weld ticket is a no-brainer—or it would be if so many Americans weren’t conditioned to dismiss the idea of a third-party candidate out of hand.
Donald Trump’s ascendancy has demonstrated that on too many major issues, the GOP no longer offers a coherent message to counter Democratic dogma. Republicans pay lip service to the goal of smaller government, but no progress has been made on that front since the 1980s.
On the most important issues of the day—how to fix America’s ailing economy, America’s role in foreign affairs and the extent to which government should be allowed to curtail liberties to ameliorate perceived social problems—Libertarians, not Republicans, offer the starkest and most principled alternative to the Democratic Party.

Rethinking America’s Global Role

Yet where once it seemed that U.S. foreign policy would be simpler and easier to manage as a result, the events of the past 15 years — the 9/11 attacks, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the Arab Spring, and Russia’s invasions of Georgia and Ukraine — strongly suggest otherwise. The world today is certainly safer for Americans than it was under the existential threat posed by the Soviet Union. But the world is undoubtedly more complex, as nonstate actors, shifting alliances, and diverse domestic political factors complicate U.S. foreign policy formation and implementation. A robust debate on America’s foreign policy choices is urgently needed.

Instead, policymakers and political candidates generally embrace the status quo. Bipartisan support exists for extensive alliance commitments, frequent military intervention, and higher defense spending. Though this orthodoxy is unsurprising since many candidates receive advice from a limited number of sources, it is deeply concerning. Debates tend to focus on which specific actions the United States should take, only rarely asking whether the United States should be involved, militarily or otherwise, in various global crises.

Even President Barack Obama, elected in large part thanks to his repudiation of the Bush administration’s conduct of foreign policy, has failed to alter the underlying bipartisan consensus that America remains the “indispensable nation” whose leadership is required in perpetuity. It is easy to see why this idea persists: America’s invaluable and outsized role in protecting the liberal international order during the Cold War was followed by two decades of unipolar primacy, where Washington attempted to exert its influence nearly everywhere.

Republicans Have Become the Party of No Ideas—and Democrats Have Become the Party of Bad Ideas

In a speech last night at the Democratic National Convention, Sen. Elizabeth Warren offered a contrast between her party and Republican presidential nominee. "Last week Donald Trump spoke for more than an hour on the biggest stage he's ever had," she said. "But other than talking about building a stupid wall, which will never get built, really, did you hear any actual ideas?"

It's hard to disagree with the idea that both Trump and the Republicans he represents have effectively abandoned governance. Last week's GOP convention was a nearly policy free zone in which Republicans all but bragged about becoming the party of no ideas.

Warren's speech, on the other hand, showed that Democrats have become the party of really bad economic policy ideas. The party has essentially committed to almost totally ignoring federal debt in favor of promoting an ever-expanding laundry list of benefits, programs, and subsidies, consequences be damned.

Warren didn't mention national debt or deficits at all in her speech last night. That seems frustratingly normal now, because over the past few years, Democrats have heavily downplayed the issue.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have the highest disapproval ratings of any two major candidates in history. The #NeverTrumpers on the right and the #BernieorBust crowd on the left represent just two dissatisfied political coalitions. There are also libertarians and the plurality of Americans who identify as politically independent.

With this in mind, Reason TV asked delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia whether or not they believe third-party candidates like Libertarian Gary Johnson or the Green Party's Jill Stein should be in the presidential debates.

Why should I believe what Bill said about Hillary at the DNC?

Why should I believe a serial sexual predator, congenital liar, serial adulterer, seller of the Lincoln bedroom, seller of pardons, and releaser of Puerto Rican Terrorists and good buddy of convicted pedophile billionaire Jeff Epstein? Why would I believe someone who jacked up his speech prices when his wife became Secretary of State and someone who would just lie about Hussein having WMD’s?
Bill said he was going to correct the cartoonish depiction the Republicans gave of his wife but I believe I have spotted some things he must have left out inadvertently. 
He forgot that she took $100,000 in kickbacks on cattle futures, that she pretended not to know about the Jennifer Flowers affair on Sixty Minutes, that she misplaced the Rose Law firm billing records, that somehow 900 FBI files showed up at the White House, that she fired the travel office and then she continually lied about it, that they trashed Billy Dale, that she falsely blamed a right wing conspiracy for that pesky Monica Lewinsky thing, that she trashed women who dared tell the truth about Bill’s habits, that she lied when she claimed Hussein had WMD’s in order to vote for the Iraq war, that she lied about her email system, (willingly violating national security laws and the Freedom of Information Act, that she didn’t lift a finger to save lives in Benghazi and falsely blamed a video, lying to Congress, the public and to the family of those that died. 
Maybe he could have pointed out that she said she had absolutely no responsibility for security at our overseas facilities and that she didn’t send or receive one classified document in her four years as Secretary of State.
Maybe Bill could have explained where the world is better off after the last 7½ years of Hillary, Obama and Kerry.  When people say that she is the most qualified person ever to run for President they could possibly list accomplishments.  Traveling, holding a title, knowing peoples’ names and being born a woman are not actual accomplishments. 
Bill could explain how the smartest woman in the World didn’t understand security laws, the Freedom of Information Act and the Inspector General Laws and what perjury is.

Day 3 at the Democratic Convention

The president headlined the night’s speeches, and a few of his boasts of his record headline our fact-checking report:

• President Barack Obama claimed that under his administration, “we finally began to wean ourselves off foreign oil,” but dependency on imported oil had begun to drop years before he took office.
• The president repeated a frequent boast that the U.S. “doubled our production of clean energy” during his tenure. Monthly renewable energy production has gone up 40 percent.
• Obama said deficits have “come down” under his administration. That’s true, but they are expected to rise again soon under his proposed budget.
• Vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine falsely referred to economist Mark Zandi as “John McCain’s chief economic adviser during the ’08 race,” in touting an estimate of job loss under Donald Trump’s proposals. In fact, Zandi is a Democrat.
• Rev. Jesse Jackson wrongly said “we have not lost a single job, a single month” since Obama became president, and he was also off in saying the U.S. trades “more with Mexico than we do with China.”
• Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta falsely claimed that Trump “says he gets his foreign policy experience from … running the Miss Universe pageant.” Trump didn’t say that was his foreign policy experience.
• Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid claimed that the GOP ticket wanted to “gamble” Social Security “in the stock market.” But Trump’s campaign has called for making no changes to Social Security.
• Kaine claimed that Trump said he “wants to abandon” our NATO allies. Trump has said that he doesn’t want the U.S. to leave NATO, but has suggested he would not automatically defend NATO allies that do not pay their share of defense costs.

Is U.S. Manufacturing Really in Decline?

Did you hear that U.S. manufacturing just had another big month? That output has risen about 20 percent in the past six years? That industrial capacity is actually expanding?
Probably not. At most times, and especially in election season, the talk surrounding U.S. manufacturing is one of relentless decline: a loss of jobs, the shutting down of factories, increased competition from foreign countries, a global war in which the U.S. seems to be on the losing end.
And of course, it’s true. At some level, manufacturing has declined dramatically — as a direct employer of American workers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 12.3 million Americans had payroll jobs in manufacturing in June. That’s down about 30,000 from June 2015, off nearly 1.9 million from June 2006, and down 4.9 million from 1996. In the past 20 years, in other words, America has shed 28 percent of its manufacturing jobs. In good times and bad, in recession and expansion, the manufacturing sector employs fewer people. It’s impossible to dismiss or talk around this trend.
But the decline of employment isn’t the whole story. Not by a long shot. In fact, in many significant ways, U.S. manufacturing is thriving. The point of manufacturing is to make stuff that people and companies will buy and use, not to employ people to make stuff. And by the former measure, U.S. manufacturing is actually doing quite well. The heavy hand of government has silenced free speech this summer

Here is the back story.
Because both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are entitled to Secret Service protection by virtue of a federal statute, the Secret Service either offered or demanded that it be the lead law enforcement agency providing general security -- not just to Trump and Clinton but for everyone -- at the conventions. In both cities, local officials went along with this.
The freedom of speech issues arose when the leadership of both conventions got so cozy with the Secret Service that they began using the federal agency as if it were private security, and they did so in such a manner as to preclude judicial intervention in aid of the freedom of speech.
Thus, when the Republican leadership wanted to quell a "Never Trump" boomlet on the convention floor, it had the Secret Service remove all reporters and producers -- including some of my Fox News colleagues -- from the floor. And when the Democratic leadership wanted to silence a pro-Bernie Sanders onslaught on the convention floor, it had the Secret Service confiscate Sanders placards from delegates on the floor.

Last time the Clintons were in the White House, they dismantled black communities

The most frequent argument used to bully Bernie Sanders supporters into voting for Hillary Clinton, instead of voting for third party candidates like Jill Stein, is that voting your conscience is a “privilege” that only white people can afford to take.

However, the data is clear that the last time a Clinton was in the White House, minorities were jailed at higher rates than during any of Clinton’s predecessors, with 673,000 new inmates in state and federal prisons. Black poverty and unemployment rates also skyrocketed during the Clinton years. As Ohio State University law professor and acclaimed author Michelle Alexander wrote in The Root, Clinton’s presidency ushered in the mass incarceration epidemic:

“Human Rights Watch reported that in seven states, African Americans constituted 80 to 90 percent of all drug offenders sent to prison, even though they were no more likely than whites to use or sell illegal drugs. Prison admissions for drug offenses reached a level in 2000 for African Americans more than 26 times the level in 1983. All of the presidents since 1980 have contributed to mass incarceration, but as Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson recently observed, ‘President Clinton’s tenure was the worst.’”

During a recent Black Lives Matter march in Philadelphia on the second day of the Democratic National Convention, thousands of black protesters were seen chanting, “Don’t vote for Hillary! She’s killing black people!”

As Trumpism Replaces Conservatism: Is the Party Over?

It was Tuesday, Day 2, of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, OH.  I was sitting comfortably in the middle section of the arena directly in front of the podium.  Chris Cox, a representative from the National Rifle Association, had just stepped up to speak to the crowd of delegates, activists and media.  As Cox began his speech and stated, “You have to be able to protect yourself and your family…” I found myself being distracted by the fellow sitting next to me.  

Could it be?  Was the guy actually booing? 

My attention turned from Mr. Cox’ speech to the grumblings of the guy next to me.  I couldn’t contain myself any longer.  In disbelief, I asked the 40+ year old fellow:  “Are you a Republican?” No answer.

The Barbarians Must Be Stopped

Everyone admires the intriguing puzzles and solutions in the stories of Sherlock Holmes.  In The Adventures of Silver Blaze, the curious incident of the dog that did nothing – did not bark – in the night was the clue toward solving the mystery.  Sherlock is needed to solve the mystery of why, on July 25, 2016, at the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, the 61 speeches may have been full of bite, but none uttered a whisper, let alone a bark, about the menace of ISIS and Islamist terrorism.
The mystery deepens with the appalling news a few hours after the end of that first day that two Islamist terrorists, armed with knives, had entered a Catholic Church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, a few miles from Rouen in Normandy, France, during morning service on July 26, 2016. They forced the octogenarian priest, Father Jacques Hamel, to kneel and filmed his death as they slit his throat.  They took nuns and others hostage before they were killed by French police.  ISIS promptly called them "two soldiers of the Islamic State."
Another terrorist referred to in the incident by the French police is a 24-year-old Algerian computer student named Sis Ahmed Ghlam, known to the authorities since he was arrested in April 2015 after he had called for an ambulance after he shot himself in the leg.  He was arrested on suspicion of planning "imminent" terror attacks.  In his car, the police discovered weapons including Kalashnikovs, a police-issued pistol, and bulletproof vests.  Even more important, they found plans for terrorist attacks on other churches, including the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris.  This terrorist is in prison charged with the murder of a 32-year-old woman who was shot three times in the head.
