Immigration and Customs Enforcement Intelligence Director Pleads Guilty To Defrauding ICE

A high ranking official's guilty plea Tuesday was the final domino to fall in a $600,000 scam at US Immigration and Customs Enforcement involving five people.
Former ICE Intelligence Director James M. Woosley, 48, pleaded guilty to defrauding the government in a scheme involving counterfeit travel vouchers and timesheets exchanged for more than $180,000 himself.
Woosley was in charge of the intelligence that supported ICE raids and major customs operations worldwide.
"He used it to purchase real estate, to purchase a boat, and to fund his life," said FBI Special Agent Jacqueline Maguire. "Public corruption is our number one criminal priority at the FBI, to stop that corruption."
Online at ice.gov, Woosley was on the front page of the agency's leadership hierarchy page, with just one official separating the fallen agent from ICE's director.
"He abused his sensitive position of trust to fleece the government by submitting phony paperwork for and taking kickbacks from subordinates who were also on the take," said U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen. "This ongoing investigation demonstrates our dedication to protecting the taxpayer from corrupt government employees and contractors."
The four others pleaded guilty prior to Woosley's plea today. Officials say he is likely to be sentenced to 18 to 27 months in prison.
