The Media and Michael Cohen Deserve Each Other

While President Trump was away on a diplomatic mission to Hanoi to negotiate a nuclear deal with Kim Jong Un, the media breathlessly turned its eye to Capitol Hill to hear from a sleazy disbarred lawyer.

In Washington D.C., Democrats and their media arm can't imagine any problem more serious than Trump.

The disbarred lawyer was happy to repeat media slurs against Trump like "Racist" and "Con man".

Trump had lied about his dealings with Russia, according to Michael Cohen, because he never expected to win the election.

Michael Cohen and the media both say one thing today and another tomorrow.

As bad as Michael Cohen is, the media is still worse.

While President Trump was hard at work trying to defuse the weapons of mass destruction in North Korea, House Democrats and their media arm tried to detonate a weapon of mass distraction.

Effort to Abandon Electoral College Gains Steam. Here's What It Would Ruin for America.

The Colorado Legislature recently passed a bill to join an interstate effort called the "Interstate compact," to attempt to sidestep the Electoral College system defined by the Constitution.

12 states representing 172 Electoral College votes have passed the initiative into law.

It would be the first time states potentially outsource their Electoral College votes to the will of the nation as a whole, rather than having elections determined by their own voters.

Nearly every state switched to direct, democratic elections of electoral votes in the early 19th century, as opposed to selection by state legislatures.

The Electoral College binds those votes up with a larger mass of votes so that in order to win the whole, candidates have to appeal to the interests of more constituents.

Many on the left have also complained that the Electoral College gives an undue weight to small states, which, in their minds, are conservative.

Because of the Electoral College, Lincoln was able to win without these states, even though he ended up with only around 39 percent of the popular vote.

FBI: Crime Dropped in 2018

The FBI report found violent crime decreased by 4.3 percent between 2017 and 2018.

Arson dropped 9.4 percent, property crime fell 7.2 percent, murder was down 6.7 percent, larceny fell 6.3 percent, car theft fell 3.3 percent, and aggravated assault was down 2 percent.

Rape, the only crime to see an increase, was up 0.6 percent.

The FBI said violent crime dropped throughout most of the country, though the West saw a 0.2 percent increase and dropped in both cities and rural areas.

"Law enforcement agencies in cities with populations of 1,000,000 and over and in cities with populations of 50,000 to 99,999 reported the smallest decreases, 2.8 percent. Violent crime decreased 4.5 percent in metropolitan counties and fell 3.5 percent in nonmetropolitan counties."

"Law enforcement agencies in cities with populations of under 10,000 inhabitants reported the largest decrease, 10.7 percent. Law enforcement agencies in cities with populations of 1,000,000 and over reported the smallest decrease, 2.1 percent. Property crime decreased 11.1 percent in nonmetropolitan counties and 7.6 percent in metropolitan counties."

"Arsons were down 16.5 percent in the Midwest, 15.9 percent in the South, and 12.8 percent in the Northeast. However, arson offenses rose 2.8 percent in the West. Arson offenses declined 14.7 percent in cities with populations from 500,000 to 999,999, the largest decrease within the city groupings. Cities with populations of 1,000,000 and over experienced a 0.7 percent increase in arson offenses. Arsons decreased 8.8 percent in metropolitan counties and 5.9 percent in nonmetropolitan counties."

House Dems Fail to Show for Own Climate Change Hearing

Congressional Republicans were able to put an end to a hearing on climate change organized by Democrats after only two members of the majority showed up.

The scheduled Natural Resources Committee hearing on climate denial was part of a "Month-long series of hearings on climate change" put on by Democrats in their opening weeks in the majority.

Despite the stated urgency of the climate change issue by Democrats, only two members of their caucus showed up, which allowed Republicans to call for and easily win a vote to end the hearing before it even got started.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, who called for the hearing to be adjourned during his opening statement, told the Washington Free Beacon he motioned for the hearing to end because its subject matter was outside the jurisdiction of the subcommittee on oversight and investigations.

"Most of the hearing involved subjects clearly outside the jurisdiction of our Natural Resources subcommittee," Gohmert said.

A spokesperson for committee Democrats did not respond to an inquiry into why a majority of its members decided not to attend the hearing.

Gohmert recognized during his opening remarks that climate change may pose problems for many Americans, but took a shot at Democrats for getting behind the radical and costly "Green New Deal" rather than proposing real solutions.

The Obliviousness and Conniving of the Democratic Party

Already, there are currently eleven declared candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination with another eight or ten waiting in the wings.

All these policy propositions have three common goals: the rapid erosion of personal freedom, an equally rapid acceleration of the United States into another failed socialist experiment, and the permanent assumption of power by the self-anointed elites on the left and the Democratic Party.

All the above are new proposals and spending which total $116.0 Trillion.

There is still the issue of current government spending at the federal, state and local level.

The Federal Government currently spends $2.9 Trillion per year.

Government spending at all levels would devour 85% of the economic output of the nation.

The candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, the senior leadership of the party and its younger members, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are either mind numbingly ignorant, indoctrinated robots or they are so desperate for power that they will do or say anything they think will enable them to win elections.

House somehow votes to notify ICE when illegals try to buy guns

Either way, the new background check bill that passed in the House yesterday wound up including an amendment that requires ICE to be notified when an illegal alien attempts to purchase a firearm in the United States.

The amendment to the bill was added via a motion to recommit.

Republicans scored a rare victory in the Democrat-controlled House Wednesday, winning a vote to have authorities notify deportation officers any time an illegal immigrant tries to buy a gun.

It's illegal for those in the country without legal status to have firearms, but an average of more than 10 a day try anyway.

Republicans offered an amendment to a broader gun background check bill to have the National Instant Criminal Background Check System report them to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which could then decide if it wants to pick them up for deportation.

Usually, when Democrats talk about passing new gun control laws, many of us shake our heads and try to remind them that we probably wouldn't need any new gun laws if we could manage to start enforcing the ones that are already on the books.

The NICBC system would be able to flag the location of an illegal alien for ICE and identify them as someone attempting to illegally purchase a firearm.

"Sometimes You Have To Walk": Hanoi Summit Collapses As Trump Balks At Demands For Sanctions Relief

President Trump had apparently hoped that the pomp and circumstance of another historic summit would soften Kim Jong Un up.

Trump told reporters that he had asked Kim to commit to full denuclearization before the US agreed to sanctions relief, and that "He was unprepared to do that."

Trump told reporters that the talks collapsed after the North refused to yield from its demand that the US completely remove all of the U.S.-led international sanctions - including the sanctions approved by the UN security council - in exchange for the shuttering of the North's Yongbyon nuclear facility.

According to Trump, the talks ended amicably enough, with a commitment to keep the talks alive, and Kim also promised that he would not resume nuclear and missile tests - the basis for the detente between the two countries - and Trump said he would take Kim at his word.

In a brief digression, Trump offered his take on Michael Cohen's marathon testimony before the House Oversight Committee, saying he was surprised Cohen didn't go "100%" and lie about Trump colluding with the Russians.

Trump has demonstrated to the markets that he can walk away, even when he so desperately wants a deal, which should please China hawks like Lighthizer.

Trump Says He Walked Out on Kim After U.S. Demands Rejected

President Donald Trump said he walked out of his second summit with Kim Jong Un after the two leaders couldn't agree on a deal to relieve North Korea of U.S. sanctions in exchange for Pyongyang giving up much of its nuclear weapons program.

Trump said Kim "Wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn't do that." In exchange, the North Korean leader had offered to dismantle its main nuclear facility at Yongbyon.

The U.S. presented Kim with evidence of additional secret nuclear sites, surprising the North Koreans, according to Trump.

While Trump said the meeting ended amicably with a handshake, he hasn't committed to another summit with Kim.

Trump's administration has insisted Kim take real steps toward giving up his capabilities before dropping sanctions.

On Thursday, Trump had nice words for Kim even after the summit collapsed.

"As long as both Kim and Trump maintain political will to continue talks, we can expect there to be progress in the future," Kim said.
